1st local itinerary for SpaceX lunar tourists on Soul.City

Soul.City launches the first local itinerary for SpaceX lunar tourists… an atypical journey, at the heart of the universe.

Ready for moon landing ?

On February 27th, Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk announced the send-off of two avant-garde tourists to the moon by 2018.  The SpaceX program was founded in 2002 with the goal of reducing space transportation costs and enabling the colonization of Mars.  Meanwhile, SpaceX has developed the Falcon launch vehicle family and the Dragon spacecraft family, which deliver payloads into Earth orbit.

Following Mr. Musk and SpaceX lead, the team at Soul.City anticipated the demand for ideas of what to do upon landing in this rather exotic destination.  Hence the creation of the first ever local itinerary on the moon!

Available now on the Soul.City app to all its users, this unique itinerary promises an unforgettable experience.  The moon points of interest are of course intended to evolve, with the expected arrival of brand names looking to bring their products to outer space.  The names of Starbucks, McDonald’s or Pizza Hut are obvious possibilities, amongst many others looking for… emerging markets!

What to do on the Moon ?

The Soul.City itinerary takes inspiration from emblematic lunar sites, such as “Taurus Littrow Valley”, where Apollo 17 landed, or “Jackson Crater” and “Aristarchus Plateau”, but also other little known sites that Soul.City users can now discover through the app.

We expect that the first SpaceX tourists may become the privileged testers of the Soul.City lunar itinerary.  Their comments and suggestions are welcome!  They may wish, however, to first download the itinerary using Soul.City’s “off line” feature, because we do not yet know whether 4G data will be available on the moon by 2018.

The Soul.City technical team also awaits confirmation by Google of the mapping of the moon, not quite functional at press time.

Taking off to new horizons!

As we expect that not every human being will have the opportunity to participate in SpaceX lunar travel, Soul.City has a surprise for you!  Deployment of our discovery app in 10 cities worldwide!  And to do so, we need YOU!

We’re soon launching Soul.Cityzen, a community where everyone who loves to travel may submit itineraries in their favourite cities.  Hang tight… taking off soon!

You may now sign up to be informed on the recruitment launch of our Soul.Cityzens!

Jean-Claude Poitras: A unique ambassador of Montreal’s design DNA!

Last December, Soul.City added a new itinerary to its Montreal offering by none other than the emblematic figure of Québécois design: Jean-Claude Poitras. Poitras is a creator who is pertinent to multiple generations, and who continues to innovate off the beaten paths.  For his collaboration with Soul.City, he imagined an urban itinerary associated to the feeling “flâneur”, or dandy of a day.  The itinerary takes us to Mr. Poitras’ favourite places and hidden gems in Montreal’s Old Port.

Soul.City’s proposition meets in every way my own vision of Montreal’s lifestyle, which is made of discoveries, on the other side of the mirror, when the heart beats a little faster beyond the conventional clichés ”, says Mr. Poitras.

Adds Annick Charbonneau, Soul.City’s CEO:  I discovered in Mr. Poitras a man deeply knowledgeable of architecture and history through the itineraries he has created for us.  The result is incredibly rich in anecdotes on Montreal’s lifestyle.

The launch of the “flâneur” by Jean-Claude Poitras itinerary on Soul.City coincides with the launch of Montréal Attitude, a VIP guided tour of the city, accompanied by the celebrated designer himself.  An epicurean adventure, a circuit throughout Montreal’s design DNA, to see the city through a different eye.

Feeling the Christmas magic in Montréal

With a few inches of fresh snow now covering the city, the team at Soul.City is in an effervescent Christmas spirit!  To indulge our festive mood, we have created a “Christmas” discovery tour of Montréal.  Beginning at the artistic heart of the city, Place des Arts, we take you to the city’s Christmas market, and to some of our favourite places to wine and dine in town.  Have extra time?  Take an electric powered Téo Taxi to the Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours chapel in Old Montréal, certainly one of the most charming churches in our beautiful metropolis.  Christmas… can you feel it coming?

Secret Stories now available on Soul.City !

Since Soul.City launched on the Apple App Store earlier this year, our team has made a priority of adding pertinent content and itineraries in our different “feelings” categories over the three cities we are now deployed in: Montréal, Strasbourg, and Paris.  We have also met with professionals in the tourism industry, who have voiced their wish to have customized itineraries for their own customers… and that got us thinking!

Montréal:  Intelligent Community of the Year!

In April a small group of leading business people was invited by the City of Montréal for a cocktail evening in the offices of BMO to meet Mr. Robert Bell, executive director and co-founder of the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF).  Mr. Bell was in town to judge the seven finalists for Intelligent Community of the Year, which Montréal had the privilege to be part of.

26041276323_91191e4f02_zThe Montreal team, headed by Harout Chitilian, made a strong impression on the judge.

Soul.City was invited to the small gathering, and I got the chance to discuss with the judge about our city discovery app.

Great news:  On June 17th at a gala event in Columbus, Ohio, Montréal won the prize title!

Here at Soul.City we’re proud to be a small part of the success of our vibrant and entrepreneurial city in this competition!

Cheers!

A Tiger in Paris

Sometimes a magic operates in Paris.  Such a night happened when I walked into a restaurant near my apartment and started chatting with a couple of fabulous Parisians, who would become fast friends.

After an incredible meal and even better talk, Annabelle and Cédric mentioned that I had to have a cocktail at Tiger, one of the best bars in town.  So off we Uber-ed to the 6e arrondissement on rue Princesse, also named“street of the thirsty” by locals (you figure out why).

My “Breakfast Paris”, a cosmo type of drink, arrived with toast and jam!

We made our way to the bar where mixologist Toni recognized my local friends and
went about mixing some of the most spectacular cocktails I’ve ever tasted.

Here gin is the specialty, but everything you order is simply unique.

Toni was busy making a drink from a – literally – smoking teapot!

If you find yourself in Paris and want to taste some of the best cocktails in the world, Tiger must be at the top of your list.

Cheers!

Fondation Café : (possibly) the best coffee in Paris!

unnamed-1Living and working in Paris for a month, I discovered a few steps away from my apartment in the Marais what is possibly the best coffee in all of Paris!

Waking up in the morning I take the Passage Sainte-Élisabeth, a green alleyway behind a church which opens onto rue Dupetit-Thouars.  Fondation Café nests in a closet-sized space, and yet roasts my café-crème to absolute perfection!

A few tables are laid outside, allowing an immersion into the daily lives of my Parisian neighbours.

Crossing to a world of delights: Le Pont de Yunnan

Paris is certainly the mecca of excellent food, but sometimes the best culinary experiences are found when one is willing to step outside familiar paths.

Such a delightful meal was found that way, at a very small, almost shady restaurant in the ethnic part of the 9e arrondissement in Paris. Coming out of metro station Saint-Georges, my senses were already awaken
by various foreign savoury smells.  Walking downhill on Rue Notre Dame de Lorette, my friend Michael had promised a revelatory experience at Le Pont de Yunnan, and delivered exactly so.

My heart beats for Alta Bistro, Whistler, BC

Some foodie experiences simply imprint an indelible mark on you.  Such was a recent visit to Alta Bistro, nestled in the gorgeous Rockies resort town of Whistler, BC.  The quaint restaurant, located just a few streets away from the village’s main action, makes you feel right at home with a casual rustic ambiance.  The service is beyond friendly, but make no mistake, this restaurant takes its food seriously.

IMG_4039

The epic meal began with sumptuous oysters served on cooled river rocks, accompanied by a Meyer lemon granita.  The Okanagan Valley Pinot Gris, ordered by the glass, made a perfect pair to the dish.  Next came the elk tartar and foie gras parfait, topped with cocoa nibs.

Already swooning, a plate of tuna albacore appearIMG_4045ed, followed by an ale roasted Alberta Wagyu beef, seared
just so!  And let me not forget the simply amazing smoked cauliflower! Owner / GM / Wine Director Eric Griffith suggested a personal favourite:  a beautiful Château Guibeau from Saint-Émilion.  As this epicurean adventure was coming to an end, I was tempted by a marvelous lavender crème brûlée.

If you find yourself in Whistler, Alta Bistro is the place to delight your foodie heart (reservations are a must).  It scores in my top 10 worldwide culinary experiences.
